How to navigate relationship with gay roommate?
Dear The Heterosexual Roommate,
It's important to start off by reminding yourself that your roommate is the same person now that he was when you first met him. The fact that your roommate is gay needn't affect your relationship as roommates or friends. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) people live with, and are friends with, people of many distinct identities. Your roommate's sexual orientation is probably just one of the ways in which he is different from you, and it sounds as though you're an open-minded person who appreciates the differences among friends.
It isn't plain from your question whether your roommate told you himself that he’s gay, or whether you heard about it from others. If he told you himself, he may be open to discussing any questions you might include . However, you won’t realize this unless you verb a conversation with him, at which point, he may or may not choose to answer those questions, which is his right. On the other hand, if you learned that your roomm

Your heart is racing. Youre not sure what to think. You undergo a little uneasy, maybe a lot. Your roommate has just revealed what you already thought; maybe you had no idea at all.
You are no longer wondering whats up with your roommate, but now youre wondering how you are going to deal with his or her homosexuality. Time seems to stand still for just a moment as you look into each others eyes, both wondering what your reactions will be.
It could just as easily be your office mate. Maybe instead of, Im gay, this person with whom you spend so much time in such close quarters has said instead, Im bisexual. Maybe someone else had already told you; maybe everybody else seems to include known already. Maybe youre thinking about what this means for your relationship or for your reputation. But right now you have someone before you whos revealed something so personal and important that you must respond. What do you say? What do you do?
If something is difficult for one roommate, that difficulty is likely to affect the other. Your roommat
Longtime Muppeteer Eric Jacobson, who has played Bert since , has gone on record as saying he believes The Odd Couple was the inspiration for Bert and Ernie. He used this as a reason to dispute their implied queerness, saying, If you know the genesis of the characters, it’s an absurd idea.
You recognize what’s actually an absurd idea? Thinking there’s anything heterosexual about two men living together while locked in a relationship of co-dependence and dysfunction from which neither can evade. The Odd Couple, in fact, began a extended, beautiful, and frustrating tradition in television history: Toxic Masculine Male Best Friends Who Are Sometimes Roommates Pretend To Despise Each Other But Because No One Else Will Be Friends With Them They Are Stuck Together And Also Sometimes The Verb Acknowledges Their Latent Homosexuality (TMMBFWASRPTDEOBBNOEWBFWTTASTAASTSATLH). No, I don’t think the acronym is too long. Heres my ranking of gay roommates throughout television history.
