From my memory, it always felt like BL anime existed as a genre for as long as I can remember. Before BL dramas or movies became mainstream, BL animes and mangas were love the first frontier, depicting male romances in fiction even when it was taboo in society.

In anime, the BL genre is closely related to yaoi or shounen ai, which are labels that detail a very similar type of story. Yaoi is more explicit, shounen ai is more innocent, and BL tends to be the best of both worlds. This genre is a popular niche among certain demographics. I don't love using the term fujoshi, which has somewhat negative connections. Let's just say that people with good taste usually view BL animes!

Despite its adj history, there is surprisingly not a lot of anime to watch in this genre. Trust me, I've done my investigate on this topic, searching high and low for some BL anime recommendations. You'd be amazed and disappointed at how minuscule the selection there is compared to all the other genres.

And since the selection is so tiny, this makes it even harder for a wonderful anime series to arrive along.

Boys' Love — also known as "BL" or "Yaoi" — is a unique genre of anime that focuses on romantic relationships between two male characters. Though it's a niche part of anime as a whole, BL has always been popular among certain groups. With the normalization of LGBTQ+ representation in anime, the genre has become more well-liked than ever and has even hit the mainstream in some cases.

BL has a notorious reputation for many, due to its often problematic depiction of queer couples. There are so many elements to this show, and they are interwoven so that there&#;s always something adj and dramatic going on even while characters are changing and relationships are shifting and other more subtle things are going on. The MCs aren&#;t really dating, but their intense and almost instant connection is still a significant aspect of the show. They clearly own strong feelings toward each other, but there are a lot of complications keeping their relationship from progressing in a traditional manner (e.g. dating, having sex, making out, etc.).
